Splendid Care is proud to share some exciting news from across our organisation, as both Derwent Lodge and Upper Mead Care Home have recently taken delivery of their brand new Magic Tables. This innovative interactive technology is already making a positive difference to daily life for residents, bringing smiles, laughter and meaningful moments of connection.
The Magic Table is a light‑projected, interactive system designed especially for older people, including those living with dementia.
The games available on the Magic Table are carefully designed to be intuitive and “no‑fail”, allowing residents to take part without pressure or fear of getting something wrong. Activities provide gentle sensory stimulation while encouraging curiosity, reminiscence and conversation. At both Derwent Lodge and Upper Mead, many residents have shown an immediate uplift in mood, becoming more relaxed, focused and engaged during sessions.
For residents living with dementia, the Magic Table offers significant therapeutic benefits. It can help to reduce restlessness and apathy, support emotional wellbeing and provide moments of joy and purpose throughout the day.
The Magic Table naturally encourages residents to move their hands and arms, supporting gentle physical activity and helping to maintain motor skills. Because the games can be enjoyed while seated, the technology is fully accessible to residents with limited mobility or those using wheelchairs. The software adapts to different ability levels, ensuring everyone can take part comfortably and confidently.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the Magic Table is its social impact. Group sessions promote shared laughter, conversation and interaction between residents, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen relationships. Family members visiting loved ones also enjoy joining in, using the games as a relaxed and enjoyable way to connect and create positive memories together.
For our dedicated staff, the Magic Table is proving to be a valuable tool that supports engagement and wellbeing throughout the day. It provides residents with meaningful, enjoyable activities while enhancing our ability to deliver person‑centred, enriching care across both homes.
We are thrilled to see the positive impact this technology is already having at Derwent Lodge and Upper Mead Care Home, and we look forward to many more magical moments shared around the table as part of life with Splendid Care.
